Gulls wrap up regular season with double-header sweep

NEWPORT, R.I. – The Endicott College women’s volleyball team posted impressive victories over Salve Regina University and Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday afternoon in Newport, R.I. The Gulls improve to 18-15 overall and 9-1 in the TCCC with the 3-1 victory over the Seahawks followed by a 3-0 win over the Chargers. Junior \#Brittany Phillips\# (Sudbury, Mass.) recorded 23 kills and 25 digs in the wins.

Senior \#Steph Wiese\# (Higganum, Conn.) added 11 kills and 14 digs for the Gulls, who rebounded from a 25-16 loss in game one to posting a 25-23 win in game two, a 25-11 win in game three, and a 25-17 win in game four.

The Seahawks (10-18, 5-4 TCCC) recorded a .357 hitting percentage in the first game and won behind seven kills from senior Deanna Salter (Westwood, Mass.) and two each from junior Lisa Zabel (Madison, Conn.) and sophomore Julianne Barry (Randolph, Mass.). Wiese led the Gulls with four kills.

In game two, the Seahawks held leads of 19-17 and 22-21 before Endicott rallied back to win the game. Wiese and sophomore \#Elyse Barbour\# (Greenville, R.I.) each had two kills for the Gulls while Barry led Salve Regina with four.

Behind four kills from Phillips and three each from Wiese and Barbour, the Gulls rolled to a win in game three, and four more kills from Phillips in the fourth game propelled them to victory.

Salter finished with a team-high 11 kills for Salve Regina while Zabel and Barry each tallied nine. Sophomore Jessica Meyer (Seymour, Conn.) led the way with 22 assists and Salter, freshman Megan Clancy (Chelmsford, Mass.), and senior Brittney Canaff (Paramus, N.J.) each notched 14 digs.

Endicott then moved on to face the Chargers, whom the Gulls disposed of in the TCCC Championships a season ago. Endicott received double-digit kills from Phillips (10), Wiese (11) and Barbour (11). Wiese and Phillips also added double-digit kills with 15 and 14, respectively, while Ashley Norley (Sudbury, Mass.) added 15 digs of her own.

The Gulls were pushed to extra play in the first set but defeated the Chargers 26-24 on a pair of Phillips kills to end the set. The Gulls cruised to a 25-19 victory in game two and then won 25-23 in the final set as Colby-Sawyer made a service error to end the game for the Chargers.

The Blue and Green return to action on Tuesday when the Gulls will host the Quarterfinals of the TCCC playoffs, opponent and time to be determined.
