Women's team wins WNEC race; Greg Payne top finisher in men's race

Springfield, Mass. – The Endicott women’s cross country captured their first team victory of the season at the Western New England College (WNEC) Invitational, beating out nine other teams with a score of 27 points. On the men’s side, junior \#Greg Payne\# (North Attleboro, Mass.) claimed the number one overall finish with a time of 27:18.75.
 
The women’s team had three of their five scoring runners finish in the top 10 with sophomore \#Holly Davis\# (Guilford, Conn.) crossing the line 23 seconds behind the top finisher in second place overall. Davis clocked in at 20:39.25. Her time was over a full minute better than when she last raced at the WNEC Invitational. Right behind her in fourth place and eighth place were freshman \#Kira DiCaprio\# (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and \#Jillian Mendes\# (Waterbury Center, Vt.) at 20:51.84 and 21:13.62.
 
Rounding out the scoring for the women’s top five were \#Kim Shepherd\# (Essex, Conn.) and \#Brittaney Plante\# (Nashuan, N.H.) registering times of 21:42.34 and 21:51.12, respectively.  
 
Senior \#Sarah James\# (Pawtucket, R.I.) and sophomore \#Jennifer Dickerson\# (Windham, N.H.) beat their previous bests on the course by over a minute with times of 23:19.84 and 24:04.12.
 
In the men’s race, Payne beat his 2009 time on this course by 13 seconds as he took the title of number one overall finisher for the first time this season. He beat the number two runner from WNEC by 33 seconds. The only other Endicott male runner to race was junior \#Tom Rofrano\# (Sayville, N.Y.) who clocked in at 32:41.91 in 41st place.
 
The Blue and Green have two weeks off until The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Championship on Saturday, October 30 in Bristol, R.I. at Colt State Park.
