Mendes, Payne pace runners at Pop Crowell Invitational
Wenham, Mass. – The Endicott cross country teams competed in the Pop Crowell Invitational on Saturday held at Gordon College. The women’s team, led by freshman \#Jillian Mendes\# (Waterbury Center, Vt.), finished in 11th place with a team score of 303. \#Greg Payne\# (North Attleboro, Mass.) was the only member of the men’s team to compete at the event. The junior finished in 15th place in a field of 252.

Mendes continued a streak of strong performances on Saturday. The newcomer finished 24th individually with a time of 20:09 in a field of 276 runners. She finished less than two minutes behind the leader with a 6:30 pace.

Sophomore \#Holly Davis\# crossed the line just seven seconds later in 27th place. Sophomore \#Kim Shepherd\# (Essex, Conn.) rounded out Endicott’s top-three with a 66th place showing (21:17). As a team, the Gulls finished between Gordon (246) and Emerson (366).

Greg Payne crossed the line in 27:31, less than two minutes behind the winner. The junior ran at a strong 5:33 pace for a 15th place showing. It was his third top-15 finish in four meets this season. 

The Gulls return to action on Sunday, October 10 when they compete in the New England Championships.
