Gulls Take Sixth at UNE Invitational

BEVERLY, MA - Nicole Prokop (Montgomery, NH/Gateway Regional) once again led the way for the Endicott women's cross country team as she took third place overall at the University of New England Invitational Saturday. Prokop finished the 5000 meter course in 21:42 to pace the Gulls to a third place finish as a team.

Prokop earned individual honors for finishing in the top seven; she was followed to the finish by Katie Carroll who took tenth place with a time of 23:44. Monica Hernandez-Burgos (Mexico City, Mexico) finished 21 in 25:14, while Kathleen Lascelles (York, ME/York) (25:24) and Lynne Gallagher (Lowell, MA/Lowell) (25:41) finished 24 and 25 to round out the scoring for the EC women.

Endicott finished with 69 points and was edged out by St. Joseph's College of Maine who finished with 66 points. The University of New England won the meet with 30 points.

On the men's side it was the freshmen that led the way for the second straight week. Sam Turner (Portland, ME/Deering) was the first Gulls to cross the finish line, he covered the 8000 meter course in 34:01 taking 12 place overall. David Le (Marblehead, MA/Marblehead) finished behind Turner and was EC's second man. He finished 26 and covered the course in 35:37. Following Le was yet another freshman. Ryan Slobin (Old Saybrook, CT/Old Saybrook) took 33 in 37:05. Rounding out the scoring for the Gulls were Jon and Matt Harkins (Hollis, NH/Bishop Guertin) who finished 45 and 47 respectively.

The Gull men tallied 135 points to finish sixth out of the then teams competing. St. Joseph's of Maine won the team title with 42 points. Endicott will head to the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth on Saturday were they will face some of the top teams in New England as well as members of an elite Japanese running club.
