Endicott Falls to Vassar in Straight Sets

BEVERLY, Mass. – In their final match before an 11-day layover for spring break, the Endicott men's volleyball team lost in straight sets (25-18, 25-19, 30-28) to see their 2015 season record fall below .500 to 9-10 overall. The Gulls will recharge their batteries over spring break and return to their NECC schedule on Wednesday, March 25th for a home match against Lesley.

After winning back-to-back matches, Vassar (12-10) looks to make it three in-a-row with a road UVC match against #13 MIT on Saturday as well as a non-conference showdown with Lasell. Against Endicott, Vassar got a match-high 11 kills via a .833 hitting percentage from freshman middle Matthew Knigge (New Egypt, N.J.) who also had three blocks.

Vassar would also see freshman setter Zechariah Lee (Buffalo, N.Y.) total an even 30 assists and freshman outside Jorge Rivera (San Juan, Puerto Rico) go for nine kills and seven digs in the win.

For Endicott, junior outside Dan Seaver (Milford, Mass.) was his team's most consistent offensive weapon with 10 kills on a .364 hitting percentage. Fellow junior John Osborne (Freehold, N.J.) would add eight kills, four digs, and two block assists in the win.

Defensively, Endicott had nine blocks at the net as a team with junior middle Daniel Toth (Vernon, N.J.) factoring into six blocks himself with one solo and five assisted stuffs. Junior opposite Alex Wasik (Milford, Mass.) and sophomore middle Ryan Sutherland (Fairport, N.Y.) each added three block assists apiece. Freshman libero Troy Riorden (Fairport, N.Y.) had a match-high nine digs in the loss.

Brewers libero Trey Cimorelli (Orchard Park, N.Y.) led his squad with eight digs.

Vassar improved to 7-3 all-time against Endicott as the Brewers avenged their 2014 loss to the Gulls in straight sets on a neutral court.
