CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –
Endicott went 2-2 over the weekend at the MIT Invitational and fell just short of getting head coach Tim Byram to 200 career wins as the school men’s volleyball coach.  The Gulls (3-5, 1-0 NECC) will travel to NECC foe Rival on Thursday, February 16th, a team they have not lost to in four meetings over the past two seasons. 

For his efforts over the weekend, senior libero Andrew Slocum (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) was named to the MIT Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Match One vs Johnson & Wales

Senior outside hitter Jeremy Siden (Natick, Mass.) had a team-high 11 kills and seven different Gulls players contributed towards 17 team blocks as Endicott took their first match of the MIT Invitational 3-0 (26-24, 25-16, 25-22) over Johnson & Wales. 

Josh Anderson (La Canada, Calif.), Matt Devendorf (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Travis Netherton (Waukegan, Ill.) factored into the offense with Anderson striking seven kills and Devendorf and Netheron both tallying six.  Brennan Lowe (Malibu, Calif.) added four kills in two sets played. 

Setters Jeremy Schlosser (Emmaus, Pa.) and Carter Roche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) dished out 18 and 15 assists, respectively, to eight different teammates. 

Slocum had nine digs to lead the team with Siden adding seven more. 

Defensively at the net, senior middle Joshua Bruno (Anderson, Mass.) had eight total blocks, including three solo stops.  Netherton and Anderson made their presence felt at the net as well with seven and six blocks. 

Match Two vs Emerson

Coach Byram earned win number 199 for his Endicott men’s volleyball career following a 3-1 (19-25, 25-17, 25-12, 25-18) triumph over Emerson in match two at the MIT Invitational.  Double-digit kill efforts by Devendorf, Netherton and Anderson all factored into the win. 

Devendorf led the Blue and Green with 13 kills with Netherton and Anderson adding 12 and 10 kills, respectively, against the Lions.  Junior Kevin Duggan (Glastonbury, Conn.) and came on strong in his three sets played with six kills with just one error.  Schlosser and Roche once again split the setting duties with a combined 46 assists. 

Newcomer Thomas Stoeckinger (Malibu, Calif.) had a .429 hit percentage as he tallied seven kills on 14 attempts with one error.  Defensively, Stoeckinger assisted on four blocks and served up two aces. 

Netherton and Slocum were strong on defense with seven and six digs each. 

Match Three vs \#9 Rivier

Endicott ran into \#9 ranked in their first match on day two of the MIT Invitational as the Gulls in straight sets 25-10, 25-18, and 25-17.  Bruno paced the Gulls with six kills and two blocks while Netherton, Siden and Anderson all had five kills apiece.  

Slocum’s six digs, Schlosser’s 12 assists, and Stoeckinger’s three block assists and two aces were all team-highs. 

Rivier marked the third nationally ranked team the Blue and Green have faced through the early portion of the 2012 schedule. 

Match Four vs Stevenson

Men’s volleyball came up just short of getting Coach Byram his 200th career win when they dropped a five-set match (20-25, 25-22, 25-12, 20-25, 15-13) to Stevenson on day two of the MIT invitational.  

Siden had his best match of the season, striking 20 kills on 40 swings with seven errors for a .325 hit percentage.  Netherton added nine kills and four blocks while both Lowe and Stoeckinger totaled seven kills each.  

Slocum once again countered the opposition’s attack with 10 digs.  Carter and Schlosser had 24 and 22 assists, respectively. 

Bruno had five assisted blocks against Stevenson, bringing his tournament total to 17.
