SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Endicott freshman guard Kamahl Walker (Worcester, Mass.) collected his third Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Week award this season after a week in which he averaged nearly 17 points per game and was a major catalyst in Endicott's victory over league rival Wentworth last Thursday night in overtime.
Walker, who is second on the team in scoring at 11.1 points per game, came up big in overtime for the second time this season as his late-game efforts helped the Gulls to a 78-77 over Wentworth as six of his 17 points came in the extra period. After forcing a turnover that sparked a fast-break layup by teammate Chris Light (Derry, N.H.) to pull Endicott within one at 75-74, Walker then hit two free throws to give the Blue and Green the lead. Wentworth pulled ahead with two free throws of their own, but Walker drew a foul with three seconds remaining and hit another two clutch free throws to give Endicott the win for good.
In Endicott's second game of the week, a match up with Eastern Nazarene for the final time during the regular season, Walker was plugged into the starting lineup and responded another double figure effort with 16 points. The Gulls lost by two to the Lions but still remain among the top teams in the conference with a 13-4 (7-3 CCC) record.
Walker finished the week averaging 16.5 points with .409 (9-of-22) field goal and .857 (12-of-14) free throw percentages, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
Endicott plays their first game following the start of the second semester at home on Wednesday, January 29th against crosstown rival Gordon, who the Gulls lost to 68-66 back on December 4th on the road. Tip-off is at 7:30 pm in MacDonald Gymnasium.
