BEVERLY, MA - Endicott College knocked down 13 three-pointers, nine of which came in the first half, as the Gulls eclipsed the century mark in a Commonwealth Coast Conference 102-72 win over Eastern Nazarene College on Tuesday night in Beverly, MA.
The Gulls broke out to an early 14-6 lead as Nemanja Marinkovic (Belgrade, Serbia/Second Baptist, Houston, TX) made a great no-look pass to a cutting Joey Burgos (Lawrence, MA/Lawrence) for the easy lay-in. On the next possession, Burgos would extend the Endicott lead as he swiped the ball from Eastern Nazarene's Luc Jasmin (Pawtucket, RI/Tolman) and took it coast-to-coast for a hard two points.
The Gulls would lead by as many as 26 points in the opening frame, as Gary Corbett (Danbury, CT/Danbury) stepped into a three-ball to put the Blue and Green on top 52-26. The Gulls would head into the intermission with a convincing 52-28 lead over the visiting Crusaders.
The second half was much of the same for the up-tempo, hot hand shooting of Endicott. Joe Sheehan (Marshfield, MA/Boston College High) connected from behind the arc and then knocked down a pull up jumper on consecutive possessions, putting the home team up 79-52 midway through the second half. The visitors did their best to hang around in the second half, as Eastern Nazarene shot 55.6% from the floor in the final 20:00; however the lead was simply too large as Endicott took the conference victory 102-78.
Endicott was led by Gary Corbett's 17 points, as the 6-4 forward was five-for-five from three point land. The Gulls also got a strong game from Ross Stewart (Palm Harbor, FL/East Lake), as the sophomore guard dropped 14 points on four-of-six shooting. Todd Burton (Lynn, MA/St. Mary's/Canterbury School) dished out four assists and accounted for 10 points in the win.
Eastern Nazarene's Luc Jasmin led the Crusaders with 19 points and four rebounds, while senior guard Ryan Seaberg (Cheyenne, WY/Cheyenne East) had 16 points and five steals on the evening.
Endicott (10-9 overall and 8-3 in the CCC) returns to the hardwood on Thursday evening as they host Colby-Sawyer College at 8:00 PM in Beverly, MA. The Gulls look to avenge their 71-61 loss at Colby-Sawyer which came on January 20th in New London, NH.
