Football Coaching Staff Takes Shape as DeWall Welcomes Hadley, Garvey, Elder

BEVERLY, Mass. – The coaching staff for first-year head football coach Kevin DeWall is beginning to take shape as Endicott has announced the hire of defensive coordinator Greg Hadley as well as offensive line coach Art Garvey and linebackers coach Tom Elder. Hadley, Garvey, and Elder all come to Endicott after several years of coaching and playing experience in upstate New York across the NCAA Division I and Division III levels.

Greg Hadley, Colgate '10

"From the first day I stepped on campus, I told our current players and recruits that we would have a coaching staff that takes pride in being great educators, communicators, motivators, and mentors for our players," said DeWall. "Guys who are passionate about what they do, genuinely care about our students-athletes, have a drive and competitive edge to demand their own personal best, and will be strong leaders for our young men. These qualities are true for Greg Hadley, Art Garvey, and Tom Elder. I have had the good fortune to observe and evaluate all three as student-athletes, as coaches, and as recruiters, and I am excited to have them join our football family here at Endicott."

Hadley, a 2010 graduate of Colgate University where he was a four-year letterman and three-year starter at middle linebacker and special teams, is coming off two seasons at Ithaca where he coached the linebackers and served as the team's assistant strength and conditioning coach. Ithaca captured back-to-back Empire 8 Championships in 2013 and 2014 and went on to compete in the NCAA Tournament where they reached the Second Round in Hadley's first season, beating Framingham State before falling to Wesley.

Hadley and his Ithaca coaching colleagues were recognized in both 2013 and 2014 as the Empire 8 Coaching Staff of the Year. In 2014, Hadley's coaching impact was further vindicated as Bombers freshman linebacker Kenneth Bradley was named Rookie of the Year by both the Empire 8 Conference and the ECAC North region.

While at Ithaca, Hadley's responsibilities covered both the academic and athletic progress of football student-athletes throughout the year. He connected student-athletes with administrators and faculty across campus to monitor academic growth. He prepared players for the rigors of the season with a strength and conditioning program for both off- and in-season training. Hadley worked with linebackers individually on their technique during each practice, broke down opponent tendencies on a week-to-week basis, and served as signal caller for the defense in game situations.

Prior to Ithaca, Hadley served as co-defensive coordinator and strength and conditioning coach at St. Lawrence.

"Greg Hadley is a very knowledgeable coach who will do a great job coordinating our defense, and his experience in strength and conditioning is an added bonus for our athletes. He understands how important player development is and will be in the future of this football program."

Art Garvey, Hobart '12

Garvey, a 2012 D3Football.com Third Team All-American guard in his senior captain season at Hobart, spent last year with Shenandoah coaching a nationally-recognized offensive line that ranked eighth in the country in rushing yards per game and 11th in sacks allowed. Garvey made practice plans, ran scout defense, did scouting reports, conducted meetings, and created and enforced study hall schedules for student-athletes. In 2013, Garvey was part of the Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year at his alma mater Hobart as an assistant offensive line coach.

Elder also comes to Endicott from Hobart where he graduated in 2014 after serving as a team captain in his senior season. In the fall of 2014, Elder stayed in Geneva and helped coach the defense while assisting in several areas of the recruiting process. DeWall and Elder were both part of the 2014 Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year after the Statesmen won the conference title and advanced into NCAA Quarterfinals.

Tom Elder, Hobart '14

"Both Art Garvey and Tom Elder provide instant energy and enthusiasm to the team, and bring a strong work ethic that will be contagious with the players. All three are proven winners and great leaders that compliment well with our current coaches and our vision moving forward."

"With so many changes from the previous coaching staff, our players have been challenged in this transition to embrace many new ideas and philosophies. They have done a very good job thus far recommitting to their teammates and buying into our plan for this program. With some of the returning coaches adjusting responsibilities, the addition of the new coaches this week, and a few more coaching staff hires coming, the remaining spring workouts and practices will be very important for our team. I know that Greg, Art, and Tom are eager to get here with the team and get to work."
