Women's Cross Country Sets Program Record At NCAA DIII East Regionals

HOPKINTON, N.H. — The Endicott Women's Cross Country team set a program-best with a ninth place overall finish at the 2023 NCAA DIII East Regional at Hopkinton Fairgrounds on Saturday afternoon.

MIT won the NCAA Division III East Region Championship behind a score of 27 points.

The Engineers were followed by Bates (81), WPI (100), Tufts (131), Colby (189), Suffolk (216), Bowdoin (229), Wellesley (241), Endicott (313) and Brandeis (322) to round out the top-10.

The Gulls were led by CCC Rookie of the year Cailin Lawlor (Wrentham, Mass.), as she ran both a personal and school record of 23:04 in the 6 kilometer run while placing 37th overall. Lawlor's finish was just two spots shy from claiming All-Region Honors (35th).

Hannah Shepard (Keene, N.H.) also set a personal record with a 23:29 pace, placing 50th overall in the event, while Hannah Risko (Albany, N.Y.) also set a personal best time of 23:53 good fot 67th in the meet.

Alexa Suchy (Guilford, Conn.) continued the trend of personal best times for Endicott with a 23:54 time as she placed 70th.

Rounding out the top 5 was Sofia Moukaddem (Weston, Mass.) with a time of 24:29 placing 89th out of 231 runners.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Souchy placed ninth among all true freshmen in the race.
  • The Gulls' top-5 averaged a program best time of 23:46 on the 6 kilometer course.
  • Cassandra Cosma (Center Moriches, N.Y.) and Brianna am Ende (East Lyme, Conn.) rounded out the top seven for Endicott with times of 24:39 and 24:49, respectively.
