Gulls Beat Western New England with Fifth Straight Shutout

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Freshman LeeAnn Card (Paxton, Mass.) scored her third goal of the season and the Endicott women's soccer team made it hold up on Saturday afternoon, defeating Western New England 1-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's soccer action.

The Gulls improve their record to 8-4-2 and move to 4-1-1 in the conference, having won their last four CCC matchups.

Card netted an unassisted effort with just over a minute to go before halftime when it looked as though the teams would take a scoreless draw into the break.

The Gulls thoroughly led in chances in that first half, with a 9-1 shot advantage, and in the game, in which they outshot the Golden Bears 13-2, though Endicott managed to get only three shots on frame.

Endicott sophomore goalie Katie Donnelly (Madison, Conn.) made two saves in collecting her fifth consecutive shutout. She now has a goals against average of 0.25, allowing just two goals against in over 700 minutes of play this year.

Each team had a corner kick chance in the first half and two in the second half.

Freshman Briana Kubik (Blandford, Mass.) made two saves for the hosts.

The Gulls will play their final non-conference game of the season on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Williams for a 12:00 pm meeting with the Ephs.

Western New England (7-8-1, 1-5 CCC) will be off until Wednesday when they travel to conference foe Roger Williams (4:00 pm).
