Nationally Ranked Williams Stops Endicott’s Five Game Unbeaten Streak

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Williams women's soccer team used a pair of second half goals to defeat Endicott 2-0 on Sunday afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action.

The Gulls drop to 8-5-2 on the year, while the Ephs, ranked 22nd in the country, improve to 10-2-1 with the victory.

Williams senior Caitlin Clark converted a free kick in the 62nd minute and first-year Abby Morss found the back of the net with just over ten minutes to play to give the Ephs the 2-0 win after the teams played to a scoreless tie at halftime.

The first half began evenly, but the Ephs started to keep the ball in their attacking end as the game went on. Both teams posted four shots in the opening frame with their best opportunities coming towards the end of the half.

Endicott's strongest opportunity came with just over a minute on the clock in the first half.  Freshmen Audrey Parolin (Cumberland, Maine) and Madison McKinley (Shrewsbury, Mass.) had a nice give-and-go in the middle of their attacking end that resulted in a shot from Parolin from 25 yards out. Eph goalie Laura Wann was able to drop to her knees to make the save and keep the game at 0-0 going into the break.

Williams had an opportunity just under nine minutes to play when Bridget Gallagher crossed the ball inside to Hana Tomozawa from the right sideline, but Tomozawa's attempt flew over the goal.

Endicott had a great look at the net ten minutes into the second half. Lexi Dussi (Boxford, Mass.) kicked the ball ahead to Michaela Hogan (Salisbury, Mass.) in the box. Williams keeper Hannah Van Wetter slid to stop the ball. When Hogan stuck with it to get a shot off, Van Wetter managed to hold onto the ball between her legs amid the collision.

The Ephs' found the back of the net with just over 28 minutes to play. Magruder was fouled just outside the center of the box.  Clark lined up to take the kick and rocketed into the right net just inside the post. The goal was the senior captain's first of the year.

In the 80th minute, the Ephs added their second goal.  Samantha Vilaboa passed ahead to Morss who carried the ball to the top left corner of the box.  She kept her shot on the ground as she placed it past Endicott goalie Katie Donnelly's (Madison, Conn.) outstretched arms into the bottom right corner of the net.

The Ephs outshot the Gulls by a tally of 13-10. Donnelly had five saves for the Gulls, while Wann posted 3 saves for Williams and Van Wetter added a pair of saves in the second half.

Endicott will return to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Wednesday when they travel to Dudley for a 3:00 pm date with Nichols.

The Ephs return to the field next Saturday at Colby in a NESCAC matchup.  Game time is set for 1:30 in Waterville, Maine.
