Gulls Hand Gordon First Conference Loss

Gulls Hand Gordon First Conference Loss

WENHAM, Mass. – Endicott scored two first half goals and denied the hosts many quality scoring chances on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Gordon College 2-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's soccer action.

Endicott improves to 6-4-1 on the season and improves their CCC record to 2-1-1, while the Scots lose just their second game of the year (9-2) and suffer their first conference defeat, falling to 3-1.

The Gulls collect their second consecutive shutout, and their fourth clean sheet of the year, turning the tables on a Gordon squad that has kept opponents off the score sheet in eight games this season.

Endicott junior Nicole Fournier (Milford, Mass.) opened the scoring with her third goal, taking advantage of a mistake by junior goalkeeper Kari Christensen (Standish, Maine). Christensen came out to play a ball in the box but fell victim to the slippery conditions. The ball trickled out to Fournier, who had no trouble putting it into a gaping net to put the Gulls up 1-0 just under ten minutes into the game.

Micaela Hogan (Salisbury, Mass.) doubled Endicott's advantage in the thirty-third minute. The senior midfielder dribbled into the box and fired her first goal of the year, a right footed blast that beat Christensen to the bottom left corner.

Endicott outshot the Scots 12-4, including 6-1 in the second half, in which they had several quality chances, particularly off the foot of sophomore Hannah Schneidenbach (Charlestown, R.I.).

Katie Donnelly (Madison, Conn.) needed to make just three saves to collect her second shutout of the year. Christensen made five stops in defeat.

Endicott did a great job of keeping the back line solid, led by central defenders Caitlin Peters (Salem, N.H.) and Lauren Todd (Newfields, N.H.).

The Gulls also had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks, taking all six of them in the second half.

The Gulls will make the short trip back home for their next match a 4:30 pm CCC meeting with Curry on Saturday.

Gordon stays home for a conference match of their own against Wentworth earlier in the day (12 pm).
