Top Vote-Getter Peters, Silva Earn NEWISA All-Region Nods

BEVERLY, Mass. – As she was for the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) Senior Bowl, Caitlin Peters (Salem, N.H.) was the top overall vote-getter at any position and a First Team NEWISA All-Region selection. Classmate Christine Silva (Stoneham, Mass.) joined Peters as a Third Team All New-England player, as NEWISA announced their regional awards on Wednesday morning.

In her senior season, Peters earns NEWISA All-Region status for the fourth consecutive year, and makes her third appearance on the First Team. Silva makes the list for the second consecutive year after earning her first mention last year on the NEWISA Second Team.

Peters has already been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) and ECAC Defensive Player of the Year and was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) All-Region First Team. Peters is also a stand-out student, and was picked for the First Team of the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District program.

The central defender and two-year co-captain of the Gulls anchored a back-line that posted twelve shutouts in 2012, while also scoring the first two goals of her career, both of them game-winners. She led a defense that allowed only twelve goals against all season, only three of them in conference play.

Silva, a CCC All-Conference Second Team winner, was a versatile player who helped the Gulls all over the field. She jumped into the attack, scoring her lone goal of the year in dramatic fashion for the game-winner in a 1-0 overtime victory over Curry on October 6th. Silva assisted on two more goals this season, and ends her Endicott career with five goals and eight assists for 18 points. A four-year starter for the Gulls, she has played in 92 games and had her best statistical season in her freshman year when she scored three goals and added three assists for nine points.

The NEWISA All New England teams include the best women's soccer players in the region and are selected by a vote of coaches.

Silva and Peters were two of just nine players from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) named to the NEWISA All New England Team. Joining Peters on the first team were midfielder Karina Scavo from Gordon and forward Kaitlyn Birrell of Salve Regina.
