Softball Swept On Day Three In Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Endicott softball team fell to Anderson University (Ind.), 4-3, and Fitchburg State University, 7-0, on Tuesday afternoon at the Legends Way Complex.

GAME 1 – Anderson 4, Endicott 3

Ravens' senior pitcher Sami Frazier (Greenfield, Ind.) picked up the victory (2-0) on six innings, four hits, three runs (all earned), two walks and a strikeout. Junior reliever Rachel Fiscus (Browsnburg, Ind.) notched her first save of the season when she entered the seventh inning for Frazier with runners on first-and-second and no outs and did not allow a hit or a run. Fiscus did walk the first batter she faced, however, before inducing a foul out to the catcher, a groundout to third, and a strikeout looking to lock up the win.

Endicott senior Courtney Blake (East Islip, N.Y.) took the loss (0-3) on six innings, 13 hits, four runs (all earned), no walks and two strikeouts.

Trailing 2-0 in the top of the fifth, the Gulls rallied for two runs behind an RBI double down the left field line from Lexi Pederson (Chandler, Ariz.) and a run-producing single to left center via Casie Beauchemin (Lincoln, R.I.).

Anderson reclaimed the lead in the next half inning when Taylar Kelso (Avon, Ind.) knocked in Morgan Burke (Kokomo, Ind.) from second with a line drive single to right field for a 3-2 advantage.

In the sixth, the Ravens added an all-important insurance run with two outs in the frame on a Shelby Shaffer (Greenwood, Ind.) RBI single to center that plated Brynn Gooding (Anderson, Ind.) from second base. Gooding reached base via a double to left field before the second out of the inning was converted.

The freshman starter also struck out four batters, induced nine ground outs and eight fly outs, and issued only three walks in the victory.

After taking a 1-0 lead in the fourth on a fielding error, the Falcons tacked on three runs in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively, and never looked back.
