Men’s Basketball Tops MIT, 85-63

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott men's basketball team defeated MIT, 85-63, for its first win of the 2023-24 season on Wednesday night at MacDonald Gymnasium. 

Jeff Hill (Lynn, Mass.) led the Blue and Green with a game-high 20 points (7-17 FG, 3-4 FT) along with five assists, three rebounds, and two steals. 

Elijah Kinney (Nashville, Tenn.) notched 13 points (5-6 FG), 11 boards, and three rejections, while Matt Boen (Mansfield, Mass.) stuffed the stat sheet with four points, nine rebounds and five dimes. 

Ty Vitko (Dover, N.H.) rounded out the individual highlights for the Gulls with 17 points (7-12 FG, 3-7 3PT) alongside five rebounds and three steals. 

In the opening stanza, the Gulls generated an 11-2 scoring spurt that produced a 10-point lead (26-16) with 6:46 remaining in the half. 

The stretch was ignited by a Mark Barrett (Brookline, Mass.) lay-in and free throw, back-to-back Vitko and Drew Brown (Pelham, N.H.) three-pointers, and Kinney capped off the run with a layup.

Leading 41-33 at the break, Endicott manufactured a 16-2 run, orchestrating a 22-point lead (57-35) with 14:29 to play in the game.

From there, the Blue and Green proceeded to fend off any sort of comeback bid from MIT.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls leveled the all-time series at 4-4.
  • Kinney recorded his first career double-double.
  • Endicott outrebounded MIT 49-38 in the contest.
  • The Blue and Green outscored the Engineers in the paint 38-22.
  • Endicott registered 21 assists on 32 field goals made.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (1-1) competes in the Emmanuel College Tip-Off Classic on November 17-18, beginning with a contest against the hosts at 6:00 PM in Boston. MIT (2-1) takes on Macalester College on Saturday, November 18 at 2:00 PM.
