Field Hockey Holds Two Spots On NFHCA All-Region Teams

2013 NFHCA DIII All-Region Teams

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Two members of the 2013 Endicott field hockey team have been recognized as top players in the region this season by being named to the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Region Teams on Monday morning.

Senior defender Emily O'Halloran (Cheshire, Conn.) will bow out on her Gulls uniform as a First Team member while junior forward Emily Sawchuck (Cumberland, Maine) earned a Second Team spot.

The honor marks the first for O'Halloran as she also holds a place on the All-CCC First Team, where Sawchuck, an All-CCC First Team honoree, is no stranger to the list as she was honored with a Second Team spot in the New England East region in 2011 as a freshman.

O'Halloran is was a key piece of the Gulls defense for the last three seasons as she has racked up a program high 14 defensive saves, while earning two conference championships. She has battled injuries during her four years and has always managed to shine in the backfield. She is a composed defender with a steady stick and uses her timing skills to be able to stop the ball high. She will graduate as one of the programs most respected defenders.

Sawchuck has continued to consistently shine on the forward line as she led the team in goals scored (17) and assists (9) while being slotted as number two in the CCC with goals scored. The junior has a large arsenal of tricks and has learned to unveil them when it is needed most as she has tallied 13 game winning goals during her three year career thus far.

With First Team eligibility O'Halloran is eligible for All-America consideration, those awards will be announced later this month. Endicott has never had a field hockey player earn All-America status.

Endicott is one of three schools from the CCC to have its players selected as All-Region members, as Gordon and the Univ. New England claimed spots as well. The New England East Region comprises of teams from the CCC, New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), North Atlantic Conference (NAC) and the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC).
