Bristol, R.I. to host Gulls for CCC Cross Country Championships

Colt State Park in Bristol, Rhode Island will be the site of the 2011 Commonwealth Coast Conference Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships on Saturday, October 29. Defending men’s and women’s champion Roger Williams University will serve as the host institution.

The host Hawks, winners of 11 straight CCC women’s championships and 10 consecutive CCC men’s titles, will be joined by squads from Curry College, Eastern Nazarene College, Endicott College, Gordon College, Salve Regina University, University of New England, and Western New England University in the run for the 2011 conference crowns.

An exciting day of racing will begin with the women’s championship at 12:00 p.m., followed by the men’s championship at 1:00 p.m. The women’s race will cover 6,000 meters, while the men will traverse an 8,000 meter course.

Saturday’s races will serve as a final tune-up before the ECAC Championships, which will be hosted by Williams College on Saturday, November 5, and the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships which will be hosted by Bowdoin College on Saturday, November 12. Teams and runners are ultimately hoping to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships scheduled for Saturday, November 19 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

The 2010 CCC Championships were among the most exciting in conference history. RWU claimed the women’s title with 39 points, edging University of New England (49) and Salve Regina (59) for the top spot. The Hawks captured the men’s crown with 23 points, topping University of New England (80) and Western New England (92) for the victory.
