Women’s Tennis Blanks Simmons To Conclude 2016-17 Season

BOSTON, Mass. – The Endicott women's tennis team shut out Simmons College, 9-0, in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at the Daly Courts. 

Doubles play featured wins from Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.) and Reilly Fitzgibbons (Killingworth, Conn.) at No. 1 (8-6), Lauren Rahr (Waterford, Conn.) and Margot Andreasen (Portland, Maine) at No. 2 (8-1), and Alexi Losano (Saugus, Mass.) and Alexandra Barmore (Southington, Conn.) at No. 3 (8-1). 

In singles action, Rahr gave the Gulls a 4-0 advantage in the match with a clean sweep at the No. 3 position (6-0, 6-0), while Losano clinched the victory with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 6. 

Endicott also saw Barnett post a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 1, Fitzgibbons breeze to a 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 2, Andreasen claim a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at No. 4, and Gillian Freter (Scituate, Mass.) come away with a decisive 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE 

  • Freter and Rahr finished tied for the team-lead in wins with 12 apiece.
  • Losano/Barmore, and Barnett/Fitzgibbons picked up their first career victories as a doubles pairing today.
  • As a team, Endicott has won 10 or more matches in six straight season. 

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott sees its 2016-17 season come to a close at 12-7 overall. Simmons (7-10) will return to action at the NCAA Tournament in mid-May.
