Coaching Philosophy

One of the most successful teams in school history, Endicott’s women’s soccer program has made 24 straight appearances in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament including ten championships. Head Coach Jodi Kenyon, who completed her 18th year at the helm during the CCC Championship 2023-24 season, has had a big part in that success. She has led the Gulls to six conference titles and six NCAA tournament appearances, where they have collected six victories, and has compiled a record of 240-96-42 (.691), ranking her second among active Endicott coaches in winning percentage. 

Kenyon’s players and teams have shined in conference play, where she has coached them to a mark of 141-25-15 (.820). Gulls women’s soccer players have also received numerous conference awards and all-conference recognition, highlighted by eight student-athletes earning the conference player of the year and two receiving rookie of the year honors.

While Kenyon has a history of building teams that produce results on the field, she maintains that developing her players into “whole” individuals is the focus of her coaching mentality. Kenyon holds the philosophy that the lessons she uses to develop champions on the field has also bred student-athletes who can achieve their full potential and commit to being the best they can both in and out of season.

“While we train hard and play a very rigorous schedule, it is my belief that the work ethic and discipline carry over onto all areas of our player’s lives. If they work hard on the field, they will work hard in the classroom, get the best internships and later in their career be highly marketable. We ask our players to commit to being the best they can all the time, not just in season.”

Part of that commitment includes a year-round training program, which Kenyon believes is paramount in importance for her players. “ While there are definitely periods of recovery and low impact, it is important that they maintain some level of fitness so they aren’t beginning at baseline every summer.”

Kenyon demands that her players are committed in the classroom as well, and her expectations have not gone unnoticed. Under her watch, Kenyon’s teams have consistently maintained cumulative grade point averages of over 3.0 and have seven times been recipients of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Academic Team award. Under Kenyon’s watch, Senior forward Colleen Pepin made Endicott history in 2012, becoming the first player to receive NSCAA Academic All-Region status and the first Gull to be named Capital One Academic All-America, earning a First Team nod.  Two additional players, Caitlin Peters and Chelsea Garlock, also received All-Region accolades for their outstanding academic achievements. Four players, 2005 graduate Katie Cederberg, Pepin, 2014 graduate Sarah Person, and 2019 graduate Elizabeth Masucci have been named CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year under Kenyon’s reign.

One of Kenyon’s keys to success is communication and cohesion, whether it is between her and her players or among the student-athletes. This is equally as important off the field as it is on it, says Kenyon, who keeps updated on her player’s classes, plans and personal lives through regular individual meetings. “Being direct and honest with players is important to me so they know their role. I don’t want surprises and I want them to be comfortable in their surroundings.”
