Cuddy and Shaw Sweep Weekly CCC Awards After Impressive 2-0 Week

CCC Athletes of the Week (Week Ending February 1, 2015)

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) has released their weekly awards and the women's basketball team swept the accolades for their 2-0 effort last week. Junior Kelsey Cuddy (Madison, Conn.) tabbed her first CCC Player of the Week nod of the season while freshman Hannah Shaw (Bar Harbor, Maine) claims her second straight Rookie of the Week honor.

Last week the Gulls went full swing claiming two victories as they now sit at 9-9 (5-6 CCC) after suffering some difficult losses throughout the month of January. Last Thursday Endicott hosted the University of New England who entered the game undefeated in the conference. With an overall team effort the Gulls claimed their first victory over UNE since 2012 in the 60-58 victory while ending a six game losing streak to the conference foes. The victory handed the Nor'easters just their second conference loss in three seasons. On Saturday the Blue and Green traveled to cross-town rivals, Gordon and claimed their second victory of the season over the Fighting Scots with a 68-52 final.

Cuddy boasted one of her best weeks of the season as she scored a team high 17 point while going 7-of-14 (50%) from the field and a perfect 3-of-3 from the charity stripe against the Nor'easters. The junior showed her immense ball handling skills with her impressive six steals, three blocks and five assists while she totaled a game high nine boards.. In the road matchup with rivals, Gordon the guard totaled 15 points and eight boards while adding another strong defensive game with four steals. Cuddy currently ranked #12 in the nation in steals per game with 3.7.

Shaw produced another strong week as the forward recorded 10 points in the victory over UNE. The rookie showed impressive skills under the basket shooting 4-of-6 from close range and going 66.7% from the free throw line while adding four boards and two steals. In the CCC contest across town at Gordon the freshman totaled 14 points in her first start of the season while adding a game high nine rebounds. Shaw went 7-of-9 from the field for an impressive 77.8% in the victory that pushed Endicott back to a .500 record.

Endicott will take the court next tomorrow night as they host Salve Regina at 5:30 p.m. The Gulls will look to avenge their road loss to the Seahawks back on January 6th where Salve Regina took the 77-67 victory.
