May 1, 2008

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Commonwealth Coast Conference announced its annual All-Conference Baseball awards on Thursday, and Endicott College had three players named to either the Second Team or Honorable Mention squads. Standout freshman Luis Uribe (Boston, Mass.) took home individual honors, earning the TCCC Rookie of the Year award after a stellar first campaign for the Blue and Green.

The Gulls' Dan Gomez (East Longmeadow, Mass.) headlines the TCCC Second Team honorees, as the senior catcher was exceptional behind the plate and in the Endicott lineup. Gomez hit .350 with a team-high 31 RBIs in 120 plate appearances. Gomez also had two homeruns and nine doubles for the Gulls.

Left fielder Luis Uribe was also named to the All-TCCC Second Team. Uribe was stellar in his rookie season, posting a team-best in batting average (.362), hits (46), doubles (10), homeruns (6), total bases (76), and slugging-percentage (.598). The freshman went through a stretch in late-April where his homered in three-straight games for the Gulls.

Sophomore righty Colin McGinn (Tolland, Conn.) was the lone Gull to receive Honorable Mention recognition. McGinn went 5-1 in the regular season with a 4.06 ERA. Colin pitched 37.2 innings of work, good for the third-highest total logged on the team. McGinn surrendered just 17 earned runs and struck out 28 batters, holding opponents to a .245 average when on the mound.
