Shawn Medeiros enters his ninth academic year as the Sports Information Director at Endicott College in 2023-24.

Medeiros, who was named the 2019 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Rising Star Award winner for the College Division, is a 2008 graduate of Bridgewater State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Studies and a concentration in Broadcast Journalism. Medeiros also obtained his Master's degree in Education (curriculum and instruction) with a concentration in Sports Information from Castleton State University in 2011, where he also served as a graduate assistant for sports information in the athletics department.

Since his arrival at Endicott, Medeiros has increased student-athlete publicity in the following areas: academics, community service, internships, and study abroad experiences. Medeiros has accomplished this through the campaign coined the "Endicott Experience" in conjunction with the College's Admission Office and the Career Center and Internship Office. Medeiros' efforts in these areas have allowed him to serve as a panelist on the aforementioned topics at the NCAA, CoSIDA, and Eastern College Athletic Conference-Sports Information Directors Association (ECAC-SIDA) conventions.

Along with his academic-centered initiatives, Medeiros has expanded upon Endicott's well-established social media platforms, which are Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Over the course of seven-plus years, Medeiros has increased audience metrics on all platforms, which includes the following numbers for Facebook (1,419 to 5,300, 274% growth/followers), Instagram (2,539 to 10,100, 298%), and Twitter (2,319 to 6957, 200%).

Those initiatives, and the expanded reach of the ecgulls' brand, culminated in www.ecgulls.com receiving more than 2.5 million page views during the 2021-22 academic year.

Most recently (2022), Medeiros was named the Eastern Athletic Communications Association's (EAST-COMM) Irving T. Marsh Award winner for excellence in athletic communications. The award — the highest honor EAST-COMM bestows — is given annually for excellence in athletic communications. Medeiros is the youngest person to receive the award since its inception in 1966.

Endicott's Athletic Communications Department, Office of Admissions, and Audio Visual Services Department also received CoSIDA's inaugural ChangeMaker Innovation Award. Endicott was one of three schools to win the award joining Middlebury College and Mississippi State as inaugural recipients of the then-newly-created CoSIDA ChangeMaker Innovation Award. 

Established in the spring of 2021, the CoSIDA ChangeMaker Innovation Award was created to recognize individual members or staffs who have created and managed innovative content during the current academic year. The purpose is to recognize forward-thinkers who bring new ideas to life — and strengthen the position of SIDs and their work — with special content, a branding and messaging campaign, new storyteller packages, social media initiatives, a digital series, etc.

Medeiros was also awarded the 2017 NCAA Division III Cross Country Excellence in Communications Award by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The USTFCCCA Excellence in Communications Award recognizes those athletics communications representatives at schools and conferences who have committed to excellent coverage and support of collegiate cross country. Winners were selected by the communications staff at the USTFCCCA National Office.

Meanwhile, in June of 2018, Medeiros was named a winner in the CoSIDA Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest where he received first place honors for District I for his blog entry on the rivalry between both the Endicott and Nichols men's basketball programs entitled: "The Rivalry You Need To Know About." District I encompasses all colleges and universities among all six New England states, New York, and parts of Canada. He also has received two best-in-conference Grant Burger Media Awards for his work promoting men's volleyball from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) in 2015-16 and 2018-19. 

Following his sports information graduate assistantship at Castleton, Medeiros served as an Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at Stonehill College from 2011-12 where he was the primary sports contact for 10 Skyhawks' teams including both nationally-ranked cross country programs. He designed the cover of Stonehill's 2012 Edition of Academics Illustrated that was judged "Best in the Nation" by the CoSIDA Publications Contest Committee in the category of Special Events Publications for the College Division.

After his stint at Stonehill, the Fall River, Mass. native was named Sports Information Director at Wheaton (Mass.), a position he held for nearly three years. Medeiros handled all aspects of athletic communications for the Lyons' 21 varsity sports and established several key elements of Wheaton’s sports information approach including a successful launch and redesign of the department’s athletic website (athletics.wheatoncollege.edu), increased social media presence, and initiatives aimed at highlighting the NCAA Division III philosophy among other aspects of collegiate athletics.

His dedication to promoting Wheaton student-athletes was lauded with the inaugural NCAA Division III Track & Field Excellence in Communications Award from the USTFCCCA. Medeiros is currently the only NCAA Division III sports information director / athletic communications director to win a USTFCCCA Excellence in Communications Award for both cross country and track and field.

Medeiros also earned three winning entries in the Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest presented by CoSIDA (District I Blog 2014, District I Season Preview/Recap, District I Blog 2018), and recognition by the NCAA and D3SIDA for his video feature on summer internship experiences on Lyons' student-athletes during his time at Wheaton.

In addition to his college athletic communications industry experience, Medeiros worked in print media for several different news outlets including The Boston Globe as a sports correspondent from 2007-09. He exercised his play-by-play and color commentary experience throughout his time serving as Director of Media Relations and Broadcasting for the Keene Swamp Bats, a New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) summer team out of New Hampshire. He has also worked as a statistician at several NCAA Division I institutions such as Boston College, Boston University, and Providence College, as well as the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL), and Major League Lacrosse (MLL).

Medeiros is an active member of ECAC-SIDA and CoSIDA. He currently serves as the Vice Chair of the CoSIDA Mentorship Program committee and participated in the organization's Rebranding Group, which has re-named the organization to College Sports Communicators. He has previously served on the CoSIDA's Continuing Education, New Media, Academic All-America®, and Young Professionals committees.

In addition to his CoSIDA committee work, Medeiros recently wrapped up his term as the President of D3SIDA, which included guiding the D3SIDA membership through committee initiatives and helping plan the NCAA DIII Divisional Day at CoSIDA's national conventions in 2019-22. Medeiros, who is the youngest D3SIDA President in the organization's history, previously held positions of D3SIDA 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, and D3SIDA Region 1 Representative (Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont) within the organization.

Along with that committee work, Medeiros is a member of the College Division Management Advisory Committee (CDMAC) and is a member of the Endicott Athletics Hall of Fame committee. Lastly, Medeiros is a member of the editorial board for Endicott's Soundings Magazine, previously served a three-year term as the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) SID Co-Chair from 2016-19, was a judge for the PR Club's Bell Ringer Awards, and currently serves as the Assistant Commissioner of the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC).
