Elmhurst Match - Box Score / Polytechnic Match - Box Score

MEDFORD, Mass. - The Endicott women's volleyball team split a pair of Saturday matches in the second day of the Tufts Invitational, falling to Elmhurt 3-2 and downing Polytechnic (N.Y.), 3-0. The addition of a win and a loss to each column brings the Gulls' record to 13-7 on the year.

A five-set marathon eventually ended in the Elmhurt favor as the Gulls fell 3-2. Endicott took the first set, 25-23, before Elmhurst posted back-to-back 25-21 wins to pull ahead 2-1. The Gulls responded with a 28-26 win to even the match at two sets apiece, however Elmhurst was able to sneak out a victory with a 15-12 win in the decisive fifth set. The Gulls were led by Steph Wiese's (Higganum, Conn.) 17 kills and 18 digs. Hayley Janelle (Madbury, N.H.) was also strong upfront, nailing 12 kills and posting four blocks for the Blue and Green. Senior Brittany Nolan (Monroe, Conn.) continued her strong defense with 26 digs while also adding two aces. Casey Ward (Monroe, Conn.) handed out 33 assists and compiled 11 digs in the loss.

In the second match of the day Endicott made short work of Polytechnic, downing the Fighting Blue Jays 3-0. The Gulls posted set scores of 25-12, 25-23, and 25-13 in the win. Hayley Janelle carried her strong play into the second match as she had 11 kills and three solo blocks for EC. 6'2" middle Amy Grigg (Vernon, Conn.) notched six kills and two blocks while freshman outside Ali Canty (Moraga, Calif.) contributed five kills and nine digs. Senior Sarah Richardson (Laconia, N.H.) posted 12 digs and a perfect serve-receive on 12 opportunities.

Endicott returns to action on Monday night as the Blue and Green travel to Easton, Mass. to meet Division II foe Stonehill College. Match time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
