Women’s Tennis Shuts Out UMass Boston, 9-0

MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA, Mass. – The Endicott women's tennis team defeated UMass Boston, 9-0, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening at the Manchester Athletic Club.

Doubles featured wins by Ripley Uyeda (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) / Lejla Guster (Wethersfield, Conn.) at No. 1 (8-5), Olivia Martinelli (Coral Springs, Fla.) / Ashley Keaveney (Exeter, N.H.) at No. 2 (8-6), and Olivia Berler (Marstons Mills, Mass.) / Kaitlin Fitzgibbons (Nashua, N.H.) at No. 3 (8-0).

In singles, Berler followed with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4, while Shelby Henry (Lincoln, Neb.) posted a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 5 to clinch the match.

Guster (No. 1, 7-6 (8-6), 6-2), Martinelli (No. 2, 6-2, 6-2), Uyeda (No. 3, 6-1, 6-0), and Fitzgibbons (No. 6, 6-3, 3-6, 19-17) rounded out the list of winners in singles for the Gulls.

"Today was a helpful match to get us ready for the NCAA Tournament this weekend," said Endicott women's tennis head coach Anthony D'Angelo. "Our level is good and we are excited to compete."

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott handed UMass Boston only its third loss of the season.
  • The Beacons (12-3) will compete against Colby-Sawyer in the first round of the NCAA Tournament this weekend after winning Little East Conference (LEC) Championship this past fall.
  • Fitzgibbons played the longest super tiebreaker of the season at No. 6 singles (19-17).
  • The previous mark was 15-13 in a win by Isabela Miani (Southington, Conn.) against Curry at No. 5 (6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 15-13).

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (13-7) takes on Farmingdale State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, May 5 at 2 PM on the campus of Amherst College.
