Women’s Tennis Tops Springfield, 8-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Endicott women's tennis team defeated Springfield, 8-1, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening at the Appleton Tennis Courts. 

The Gulls took an early lead in the match by taking two out of three doubles flights.

Shelby Henry (Lincoln, Neb.) / Olivia Berler (Marstons Mills, Mass.) got the Gulls on the board first with a quick 8-0 victory at No. 3, while Olivia Martinelli (Coral Springs, Fla.) / Ashley Keaveney (Exeter, N.H.) followed with a gritty 8-5 win at No. 2 to round out doubles action.

In singles, the Gulls took full control of the match behind the strong play of Lejla Guster (Wethersfield, Conn.), Ripley Uyeda (Ranchos Palos Verdes, Calif.), and Keaveney at the No. 3 (6-4, 6-1), No. 1 (6-0, 6-4), and No. 2 (6-2, 6-4) positions.

Endicott also saw winning contributions down the lineup from No. 4 Martinelli (6-1, 6-4), No. 5 Henry (6-2, 6-2), and No. 6 Berler (6-4, 10-3).

  • The Gulls remain undefeated away from The Nest this fall (4-0).
  • Berler/Henry register their third victory in doubles at the No. spot this season.
  • Guster is 2-0 this season in singles (1-0 at No. 2 & No. 3).
