Endicott and Roger Williams Play to a 0-0 Draw

BRISTOL, R.I. - In a pivotal matchup between two of the preeminent women's soccer powers in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), Endicott and Roger Williams played to a 0-0 draw after two overtime periods. The tie, the first in conference play for both teams, moves Endicott to 3-3-1 (1-0-1 CCC), while Roger Williams moves to 3-4-2 (1-0-1 CCC). 

The scoreless battle saw the two teams match each other in nearly every statistical category. Both teams were credited with 17 shots while both keepers, Shelby Elwell (Litchfield, Conn.) of Endicott and Natalie Donovan (Quincy, Mass.) of Roger Williams, collected six saves in their shutout efforts. Roger Williams held slight advantages in fouls (13 to 12), and corners (four to three).

BEYOND THE BOX

  • Since 2003, Endicott and Roger Williams have combined to win 13 of the 14 championships in that span. Endicott holds a 16-10-5 advantage in the all-time series, as well as a 9-6 advantage in CCC title throughout the Gulls' storied history.
  • Sharlotte Pernice (West Springfield, Mass.) led Endicott's offensive efforts, finishing with a match-high seven shots. Finishing closely behind was Hannah Pesci (Windham, N.H.), who posted four in the tie.
  • Elwell's six save effort helped her record her second career shutout, and first double overtime shutout.
  • 10 of the last 11 meetings between these two programs have gone to at least one overtime period, with seven of those advancing to double overtime or penalty kicks.

FOR THE FOES

  • Donovan's six saves enabled her to record her second shutout of the season.
  • Gabbi Rozumek (Woodstock, Vt.) led the Hawks with five shots, four of which were on goal.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott plays host to NEWMAC foe Babson on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., before hosting Western New England on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Roger Williams is on the road for two mid-week non-conference contests in WPI on Monday at 7:00 p.m. and Framingham St. on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. before traveling to UNE on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in CCC play.
