BEVERLY, Mass. – Four members of the Endicott women's ice hockey program have earned postseason accolades from the Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC), as announced by the league office earlier today.
Vendela Jonsson (Linkoping, Sweden) headlines the group as the freshman goaltender was named the CHC Co-Rookie of the Year, along with Tess Adams (Calgary, Alberta) from SUNY Canton. In addition to her CHC Co-Rookie of the Year award, Jonsson also picked up CHC All-Conference second team accolades and All-Rookie Goaltender honors.
Freshman forward Lexi Klein (Shoreview, Minn.) earned selections to the CHC All-Conference second team and All-Rookie team, while freshman defenseman Ellen Carter (Roseville, Minn.) also claimed CHC All-Conference second team honors. Freshman forward Maggie Layo (Sandwich, Mass.) rounded out the list of honorees for the Gulls with a selection to the honorable mention team.
This past season, Jonsson finished the regular season in net with an 11-5-4 record, a 1.43 goals against average (GAA), 475 saves (.942), and seven shutouts. Jonsson currently ranks tied for fifth in the country (NCAA Division II/III) in shutouts, No. 14 in GAA and save percentage, and No. 23 in winning percentage (.650).
Klein posted 17 points (7g, 10a) in 19 games played for the Gulls to rank No. 11 among all rookies in the country in points per game (0.89), while Carter registered a +12 rating (plus/minus), blocked a team-high 38 shots, and tallied six points (1g, 5a) in 23 games played. Along with Jonsson, Carter also helped Endicott to the second-best GAA in the league (1.37).
Meanwhile, Layo currently ranks first on the team in goals (8) and third in scoring (8g, 3a, 11p) entering the CHC Tournament semifinals, which begins for Endicott on March 5.
The Gulls earned the No. 2 seed and an automatic bye into the semifinal round of the upcoming CHC Tournament by posting an 11-1-2 record in league play this season.
Endicott will travel to Stevenson University (13-0-1) on March 5 to play the highest remaining seed left in the tournament after the conclusion of the quarterfinal round. The matchups in the quarterfinal round include No. 3 Morrisville State (9-3-2) vs. No. 6 Johnson & Wales (4-10-0), and No. 4 SUNY Canton (7-6-1) vs. No. 5 Becker (5-9-0).
With its 13-0-1 record, Stevenson University claimed the conference's inaugural regular season title, an automatic bye into the semifinal round, and, most importantly, the right to host the semifinal and final rounds at home. The Mustangs will play the lowest remaining seed from the quarterfinal round in the semis on March 5.
