Women’s Ice Hockey, Morrisville State Play To 2-2 (OT) Tie

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's ice hockey team erased a two-goal deficit in the third period to earn a 2-2 overtime tie against Morrisville State on Saturday afternoon at Raymond J. Bourque Arena.

Trailing 2-0 early in the third, Endicott freshman Maggie Layo (Sandwich, Mass.) redirected a shot taken from the point by classmate Lexi Klein (Shoreview, Minn.) into the back of the net at the 6:10 mark to make it a 2-1 contest.

Schmaltz then went on to hold the Gulls scoreless over the next 12-plus minutes of action before Courtney Walpole (Allen, Texas) evened up the matchup as an extra attacker with her third goal of the season at 18:37. Danielle Comorre (Tujunga, Calif.) generated the scoring opportunity by firing a shot from the slot that Walpole knocked down and under Renee Schmaltz's (Beaumont, Alberta) pads.

In the first, Ciara Lark (Mildmay, Ontario) gave the Mustangs a 1-0 lead at 13:10 when she beat Endicott freshman goaltender Vendela Jonsson (Linkoping, Sweden) with a low shot from the blue line through traffic for her first power play goal of the season (third overall). Meanwhile, Stephanie Strymecki (Kelowna, British Columbia) pushed the Mustangs' advantage to 2-0 early in the third (3:27) by converting a breakaway chance with a slick right to left deke move for her team-leading 11th goal of the season.

Jonsson stopped 29 shots (9-5-4), while Schmaltz recorded 38 saves (6-8-3) in the draw.
