BEVERLY, Mass. – The top-seeded Endicott softball team blanked fourth-seeded Nichols, 5-0, on Thursday evening to secure its spot in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship Round.
WP (13-3): Maria Hanchuk (South Windsor, Conn.) — 7 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 K
LP (9-6): Chelsea Indyk (Easthampton, Mass.) — 3 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Katie Watts (Swampscott, Mass.) and Raven Comtois (Milford, N.H.) hit back-to-back homers in the bottom of the first inning and the Gulls rode that momentum the rest of the way for the victory.
Chloe Shapleigh (Lynnfield, Mass.) also scored on a wild pitch later in the first to cap the scoring in the frame (3-0).
From there, Emma DaSilva (Bristol, R.I.) and Watts drove in runs in the third and fifth innings, respectively, to provide Hanchuk some extra insurance.
