Blake and Martzolf Highlight CCC Weekly Honors

CCC Athletes of the Week (Week Ending April 19, 2015)

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) has released their weekly awards and two members of the Endicott softball team were recognized for their efforts last week. Junior Courtney Blake (East Islip, N.Y.) tabbed her second Pitcher of the Week nod this season while freshman Margaret Martzolf (Port Saint Lucie, Fla.) earned her first career Rookie of the Week honor.

Last week the Gulls went 5-2 overall an 4-0 in CCC play with victories over Wentworth and the University of New England. The Blue and Green will take the field next tomorrow, Tuesday April 21st as they host Salve Regina for a CCC doubleheader and final home game of the regular season starting at 3:00 p.m.

Blake played a stellar week for the Gulls as she went 5-0 in the circle improving to 13-2 on the season. Out of her five games on the week the junior hurled three shutouts leading to an impressive .68 ERA with 18 strikeouts while allowing just three runs on 20 hits. Blake posted a strong shutout victory over Wentworth in game one tallying eight strikeouts with one hit. In game two she came in on the relief and hurled four innings for four strikeouts. In the CCC DH with UNE Blake allowed just three runs while striking out two.

Martzolf played an impressive week for the Blue and Green making seven appearances. The infielder recorded six RBI's on the week while recording a .320 batting average, .600 slugging percentage while launching two homers. Martzolf tabbed three ribbies in the victory over Wentworth in game one while adding a home run and two RBI's in game one with Lesley while hitting her second home run of the week.
