Gulls Fall to Regional Foe Babson 3-1

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott softball team hosted Babson on Tuesday evening for a non-conference matchup. Despite a homerun by junior Sam DiBella (Danvers, Mass.), the Beavers held a tight lead for all seven innings behind freshman pitcher, Ali Reilly (New Caanan, Conn.) for the 3-1 victory. Endicott falls to 12-11 while the Beavers improve to 15-11.

Endicott will take the field next tomorrow, April 15th as they host non-conference foe Lesley for a doubleheader at the Softball Complex. Babson will also see action next tomorrow as they host NEWMAC opponent MIT for a doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m.

For the Gulls, freshman Mikaela Mallozzi (Shelton, Conn.) took the circle and hurled her first complete game of the season throwing 57 strikes on 80 total pitches in the tough loss. Her counterpart, Reilly boasted an impressive seven strikeouts and allowed just two hits in seven innings.

Offensively DiBella launched the lone RBI for the Blue and Green while three different Beavers earned RBI's. Along with a homerun from DiBella, senior Meaghan Hayes (Robbinsville, N.J.) also crushed a homerun in the contest for Babson.

After a scoreless first two innings Babson got on the board first in the top of the third. With a runner on first, sophomore Leslie Moore (Atkinson, N.H.) ripped a double to center field to allow junior Madison Dinaso (Ardsley, N.Y.) to score from first.

The following inning the Beavers kicked the lead up to two after junior Emily Morris (Wolcott, Conn.) hit a double to center to send Hayes home from second base. Endicott would counter back in the bottom of the fourth as DiBella kicked off the inning by notching her fourth homerun of the season for the 2-1 score.

After a scoreless fifth inning by both sides, Hayes started off the top of the sixth by smashing a deep homerun to center field to put up the third and final run of the day to secure the 3-1 victory.

Mallozzi falls to 0-2 on the season while Reilly improves to 6-7 in the circle.
