McNeill Tabs CCC Co-Player of the Week Honor

CCC Athletes of the Week (Week Ending March 22, 2015)

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) has released their weekly awards and sophomore Julia McNeill (Hauppauge, N.Y.) earned the first Player of the Week nod for the Gulls softball program this season. Last week the Blue and Green competed in the Dot Richardson Spring Games down in Clermont, Fla. where they went 3-7 overall.

Excluding Sundays games, McNeill saw action in all eight remaining games down in Clermont. The sophomore spent most of her time at second base throughout the week claiming 10 putouts and not giving up a single error in her eight appearances. On the offensive end the steady bat averaged a .462 mark with a team-high eight RBIs on 12 hits for a .538 slugging percentage, highlighted by two doubles and three stolen bases. McNeill held a high .517 OBP which helped guide the Gulls to key victories over Smith, Western Connecticut and Southern Maine. In the 1-0 victory over Western Connecticut the sophomore recorded the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the fifth.

The Blue and Green will take the field next on Saturday, March 28th as they travel to Wentworth for their CCC opener for a doubleheader at 12/2 p.m. The following day the Gulls are scheduled for their home opener with CCC opponent Curry at 12/2:30 p.m.
