CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – On day one of the MIT Scramble, the Endicott men's volleyball team took down Bard in straight sets (25-15, 25-11, 25-22) behind a nine-kill, five-block performance from junior middle Daniel Toth (Vernon, N.J.) and a strong defensive effort from senior captain and libero Kristian Catalan (Sudbury, Mass.) who had a match-high 14 digs.
Endicott (14-10) takes on Lehman in their first match of day two at 10:30 a.m. before taking on the host MIT Engineers at 1:00 p.m. Endicott and Lehman are meeting for the first time while the Gulls and Engineers are facing off for the 28th time with the most recent being a five-set thrilling victory for MIT on the road.
Toth's nine kills were a match high as the junior sported a .375 hitting percentage. Fellow juniors John Osborne (Freehold, N.J.), Dan Seaver (Milford, Mass.), and Cameron Little (San Diego, Calif.) also had big matches with Osborne and Seaver contributing with seven and five kills, respectively, and Little distributing 25 assists to 10 different attackers.
Little also factored in defensively with five digs and four block assists.
Endicott sophomore middle Ryan Sutherland (Fairport, N.Y.) as well as junior Alex Wasik (Milford, Mass.) added four and three assisted blocks to the Gulls overall blocking scheme that produced a total of 9.5 team blocks.
Endicott was able to limit Bard offensively to a -.067 hitting percentage as only Jesse Small (Brookline, Mass.) and Troy Robertson (New Orleans, La.) were able to swing in the positive with four kills apiece and freshman setter Joseph Stier (Germantown, N.Y.) dumped two kills to go along with his 14 assists.
