NEWTON, Mass. – In a non-conference tri-match with #14 Dominican (Ill.) and Lasell, the Endicott men's volleyball went 0-for-2 despite standout performances from junior outside hitter Dan Seaver (Milford, Mass.) who went off for 30 kills combined in the two losses. Endicott (8-9, 7-0 NECC) looks to right the ship on Tuesday, March 10th with a home match against conference rival Regis.
Endicott and Regis (3-12, 1-3 NECC) hold first serve at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday inside MacDonald Gymnasium. The Gulls took down the Pride in straight sets (25-23, 25-22, 26-24) back on February 10th and go into the match owning a 12-0 all-time record over Regis.
#14 Dominican (Ill.) 3, Endicott 0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-21)
In the first-ever meeting between Endicott and Dominican, Seaver erupted for 14 kills and a .308 hitting percentage. The Stars, however, hit .271 as a team and saw eight different attackers record kills including 10 kills from Brad McFarland (Tinley Park, Ill.) as Dominican edged out the Gulls in all three sets.
Endicott junior middle Daniel Toth (Vernon, N.J.) added five kills and six block assists, junior setter Cameron Little (San Diego, Calif.) totaled 27 assists, and senior libero Kristian Catalan (Sudbury, Mass.) had a team-high nine digs in the losing effort.
Dominican setter Alex Coyne (Naperville, Ill.) had 29 assists for the Stars and libero Robert Mead (Darien, Ill.) led all players with 12 digs in the win. Dominican improved to 10-7 overall after beating both Endicott and Lasell on Sunday.
Lasell 3, Endicott 0 (27-29, 25-22, 17-25, 28-26, 15-11)
Endicott held a 2-1 set lead over Lasell but the Lasers rallied to force a deciding fifth set and won it 15-11 to beat the Gulls 3-2. Lasell got a match-high 22 kills from Dan Raffol (Natick, Mass.) and another 17 kills, 11 digs, and four block assists from Patrick MacDonald (Floral Park, N.Y.) to help fuel the comeback win.
For Endicott, junior outside John Osborne (Freehold, N.J.) rebounded from a slow first match to register a team-high 20 kills with 16 digs and four total blocks. Seaver and Toth also finished with double digit kills with 16 and 14 kills, respectively. Toth's 14 kills were a career-high, eclipsing his previous best of 11 from Endicott's season opener against Brooklyn.
Catalan broke his career-high of 16 digs by five, leading all players with 21 digs in the five-set showdown. Little also set a new career-high with 55 set assists, breaking his previous total of 48 from five set matches against MIT and Southern Vermont within the past two weeks.
Endicott sophomore middle Ryan Sutherland (Fairport, N.Y.) turned in an efficient 9-1-18 (.444) line with five digs, a solo and assisted block. Junior middle Alex Wasik (Milford, Mass.) contributed with five kills.
