McLaughlin Leads Gulls to Double-Overtime Victory In CCC Quarterfinals

BEVERLY, Mass. – Brendan McLaughlin (Colchester, Conn.) led the No. 1 seeded Endicott men's soccer team to a double-overtime victory over the University of New England in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) quarterfinal round held at Hempstead Stadium on Saturday night.

The Gulls and the Nor'easters went scoreless through 101 minutes of play before Endicott scored the golden goal. Diego Maillo (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) sent a pass directly to the front of the net, where McLaughlin was waiting to head the ball in past UNE goaltender Nathan Delesdernier (Niantic, Mass.)

Meanwhile, Will Manuel (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) stopped three shots in net in to improve to 8-3-3 on the season and earn the shutout. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls outshot the Nor'easters, 44-5.
  • Endicott totaled 20 shots in both the first and second half. 
  • The Gulls recorded 16 corner kicks to UNE's two. 
  • Evan Couchot (Mason, Ohio) paced the offense with 17 shots.

FOR THE FOES

  • Delesdernier finished the season with a 4-9-0 record and made 12 saves during the contest.
  • Callum Heaslewood (London, England) and Flynn Willsea (Naples, N.Y.) led the offense with two shots each.

WHAT'S NEXT 

Endicott (11-4-3, 6-1-2 CCC) moves onto the CCC semifinals and will face No. 4 seed Wentworth in Hempstead Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. UNE (4-15-0, 3-6-0 CCC) conclude their season with the loss.
