BEVERLY, Mass. – Behind goals from Evan Couchot (Mason, Ohio) and Jamie Becker (Fairfield, Conn.), the Endicott men's soccer team defeated WPI, 2-1, on Tuesday night at Hempstead Stadium.
Couchot opened up the scoring in the 18th minute (17:17) when he tucked home a low shot into the right corner of the net from the left corner of the box after receiving a through ball from Brandon Haughton (Hartford, Conn.).
In the second half, Becker added an all-important insurance tally for the Gulls when he headed home a cross from Conner Couchot (Mason, Ohio) into the lower right corner of the net at the mark 57:43 mark of the contest.
Less than 10 minutes later (66:13), Paul Beatty (Halifax, Mass.) helped WPI cut the deficit in half with a tremendous individual run through traffic up the left wing before slotting a shot into the right corner of the net for his fifth goal of the season.
The Gulls then clamped down on defense the rest of the way as Endicott only allowed four shots total (all off goal) to clinch their fourth straight victory of the year.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Dario Neukom (Palma De Mallorca, Spain) nearly made it 3-1 with a free-kick roughly 30 yards out that hit the crossbar at the 81:36 mark.
- Endicott is now 1-0-1 in the all-time series against WPI after tonight's win.
- Will Manuel (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) made three saves to improve to 3-1-1 on the year.
- Both teams tied in corner kicks, 5-5.
FOR THE FOES
- Connor Hoeckele (Granby, Conn.) fell to 5-3-0 on the season with the loss.
- WPI held a 12-6 advantage in shots.
