Gulls Set to Host First NCAA Tournament Game

Gulls Set to Host First NCAA Tournament Game

May 7, 2006

BEVERLY, MA - Endicott College will host its first-ever home NCAA Tournament game Wednesday when the Gulls host St. Lawrence University in the opening round of the NCAA Divison III Tournament.

The winner travels to 12-2 Geneseo State for the second round Saturday at 1:00 PM. The St. Lawrence/Endicott game time has not been established because the EC women's lacrosse team is hosting an NCAA Tournament contest that same day.

Endicott College earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after winning its third straight Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship this spring, beating Gordon in the CCC final. St. Lawrence, located in Canton, New York, won the Liberty League with a record of 13-3.

The Gulls (14-4) are no strangers to NCAA play. They are 2-1 lifetime in the tourney, earning the program's first win last spring against Keene State. In the second round, EC fell to Middlebury College in a close battle. The Panthers went all the way to the NCAA Championship.

All four of the Gulls' losses came to schools from the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Endicott lost to Bates (No. 12), Wesleyan (No.6) and Tufts (No. 9), which are all ranked in the latest NCAA Division III Poll, as well as Connecticut College. EC defeated Bowdoin College - ranked eighth in the poll.
