Karkow, Greene, and Burkhart to captain 2011-12 Endicott Men's Basketball team

BEVERLY, Mass. – Head men’s basketball coach Phil Rowe announced today that senior forward Aaron Karkow (Uncasville, Conn.), junior guard Lance Greene (Dorchester, Mass.) and sophomore guard Tyler Burkhart (Cromwell, Conn.) will be the captains for this season’s Gulls squad.

“Tyler, Lance and Aaron give Endicott basketball tremendous team leadership,” says Coach Rowe.

The Blue and Green, who improved from a 12-win team in 2009-10 to 17-win team in 2010-11, have their sights set on a return trip to the CCC Championship.  Endicott is in search of its sixth conference championship in program history.

Aaron Karkow, Sr., Forward, Athletic Training

Karkow has appeared in 73 games for the Gulls, starting in 56 of them.  Thus far in his career, Karkow has accumulated 569 points (7.8 per game), 316 rebounds (4.3 per game), 87 assists (1.2 per game), 63 blocks (0.9 per game) and 44 steals (0.6 per game).  Last season, Karkow had one of his best games, a 24-point outburst against Merchant Marine Academy as Endicott won the King’s Point Tournament.  Off the court, Karkow has completed internships with G’s Fitness and Nutrition, Endicott Athletic Training, and the Salem High Athletic Training department.  He is a Dean’s List student.  Karkow has volunteered with the Gloucester Food Pantry, Special Olympics and Lighthouse Leadership Society.  He also served as an orientation leader on campus.

Coach Rowe says, “Aaron is a coach’s dream. When we look for Leadership here at Endicott we look for young people who can lead on and off the court. Aaron is one of those young men that epitomizes what we all look for in our captains.  He continually asks himself, ‘What can I do to make this situation better?’ and at the end of the day, Aaron puts his team before himself.”

Lance Greene, Jr., Guard, Sport Management

Greene has been playmaker on the court for two years for the Gulls, averaging 14.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.9 steals per game.  He has started in 36 of his 37 games played, averaging 32.5 minutes per game.  Last season he was named to the All-CCC First Team as well as D3Hoops.com Northeast Region Fourth Team honors.  He has been named CCC Player of the Week once and Rookie of the Week twice.  After his freshman year, he was honored as the Endicott Male Rookie of the Year.  Off the court, Greene completed an internship with the Hoop Mountain Basketball Organization while volunteering his time with Special Olympics, the Beverly Food Pantry, a fifth-grade drug prevention program, a parent and teen dialogue night, and the U.S. Veterans Clothing Drive.

Coach Rowe says, “Lance Greene has been a leader of our program since day one when he arrived to campus. His passion for his family, friends, and our community have brought out the best in him. In return, Lance has given of himself every step of the way to help our program and every person in the program reach their potential. He is a tremendous ambassador for our program and Endicott College.”

Tyler Burkhart, So., Guard, Business

After breaking his foot early in the 2010-11 season, Burkhart return to play in 17 games and start 10 of them.  He averaged 6.2 points per game and totaled 48 rebounds, 15 assists, 10 steals and four blocks.  Burkhart had six double-digit scoring games last season, including an 11-point effort against Roger Williams in the conference quarterfinals to get the Gulls into the next round of the tournament.

Coach Rowe says, “Tyler is a tremendous vocal leader on and off the court for our program. His work in every aspect of the program, in the weight room, taking upon himself to help his teammates with every aspect of their lives has been his mark on our program and the College. No one in the program has worked any harder on his game or helping others. Tyler is one of those leaders that leads by example.”
