Sack Machine Andrew Holfinger Named NEFC Defensive Player of the Week

BEVERLY, Mass. - For his efforts in Endicott's 28-6 over Curry in the first week of NEFC games, fifth-year linebacker Andrew Holfinger (Sterling, Mass.) was named the NEFC Defensive Player of the Week. Holfinger's two sacks on Colonels quarterback Spencer Tyler (Yarmouth Port, Mass.) signified his fourth straight game with a sack to start the season and also established a new, single-season high for the linebacker.

Holfinger now has five sacks on the season, eclipsing his previous career-high of 3.5 sacks from his 2012 campaign. He the NEFC in that category with the next highest total coming from Nichols freshman Ryan Jacques (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) with 3.5 sacks.

Against Curry on Homecoming Saturday, Holfinger totaled nine tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss of 11 yards, two sacks, two quarterback hurries, two pass breakups, and a blocked extra point. One of Holfinger's pass breakups was a near pick-six deep inside Curry territory on the 12-yard line.

This is Holfinger's second NEFC Defensive Player of the Week award. He previously earned the honor following Endicott's 2013 week three loss at home to Kean, a game in which Holfinger recorded 11 tackles, four tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, and a pass breakup.

Holfinger and the Gulls are back in action on Saturday, October 4th on the road against Maine Maritime Academy. Kickoff is at noon.
