BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's volleyball team defeated Wheaton (Mass.), 3-2, on Thursday evening at MacDonald Gymnasium. The set scores for tonight's match were 20-25, 20-25, 27-25, 25-23, and 15-10.
Amanda Gilbert (Hopkinton, Mass.) led the Gulls with 15 kills, three service aces, seven digs, and two block assists.
Gilbert found another gear from the third set on as the senior outside compiled 13 kills (3k-3rd; 5k-4th; 5k-5th) and six digs when it mattered most.
Meghan Frederick (Sunapee, N.H.) also compiled 12 kills (.455) and five block assists, while Riley Donahue (South Windsor, Conn.) and Nicole Winkler (Southborough, Mass.) notched nine kills apiece to help fuel the comeback.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Gulls are 7-4 in the all-time series versus Wheaton.
- Lauren McGrath (Franklin, Mass.) orchestrated the offense via a career-high 41 assists (previous career-high 22 vs. Southern Maine on September 1, 2021).
- Thirty of McGrath's assists occurred from the third set on (8a-3rd; 14a-4th; 8a-5th).
- Defensively, Endicott limited Wheaton to a .135 hitting percentage in the final three frames.
- Tonight's match featured 21 tie scores and 13 lead changes.
- Set three saw five ties and two lead changes, while set four witnessed six ties and four lead changes.
- The Gulls erased a 19-12 deficit and a 24-21 deficit in set three.
- Endicott never trailed in the fifth set after racing out to a quick 3-0 advantage in the match tiebreaker.
- Gilbert had five of her seven digs lead to kills (.714) and eight of her 23 receptions result in putaways (.348).
- The Gulls are 4-0 at home this season.
WHAT'S NEXT
Endicott (6-3) hosts Suffolk on Saturday, September 25 at 1 PM. Wheaton (8-4) welcomes Coast Guard (11 AM) and UMass Dartmouth (3 PM) to its campus this coming Saturday.
