Watts' 13 Kills Not Enough as Endicott Falls to Roger Williams 3-1

BEVERLY, Mass.- The Endicott women's volleyball team hosted Roger Williams for Endicott's Homecoming match and dropped a tough 3-1 decision to fall to 12-6 (2-1 CCC) on the season while Roger Williams improves to 11 -7 (3-0 CCC).

Endicott was led by senior opposite Lexi Watts (San Diego, Calif.) as she knocked down a match-high 13 kills in the setback.  Watts also pitched in three digs and two assist blocks in the rematch of last season's CCC Semifinal match that saw the Gulls fall in five.

Setter Alleigh VandeMerkt (Riverside, Ill.) posted one of two double-doubles for the Gulls as she posted a season-high 30 assists and 12 digs. The other double-double performance belonged to Tori McIntyre (San Diego, Calif.) as the outside tallied 10 kills and 15 digs.

BEYOND THE BOX

  • Endicott libero Cydney Pierce (Santa Barbara, Calif.) picked up a team-high 20 digs, the ninth time this season she has reached the 20 dig plateau.
  • Freshman setter Mareena Clotfelter (Poulsbo, Wash.) posted 14 digs on the day, the second highest single match performance of the season.  It was the fourth time on the season that the freshman as recorded double-digit digs.
  • The Gulls are now 16-16 all-time against the Hawks as Roger Williams has won the last four straight meetings dating back to 2013. This was the first time a match between the two programs was decided in four sets since the Gulls dropped a 3-1 decision in Bristol, R.I. on November 5, 2011.

FOR THE FOES

  • Freshman middle Molly Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.) registered a team-high 11 kills on 25 error-free swings to finish with a team-high .440 average. The first-year player also led all players with five assist blocks.
  • Setter Nicole Weber (Poulsbo, Wash.) led all players with 38 assists as she also picked up three kills, four digs, two blocks and an ace in the win.
  • Libero Maria Batas (Merrick, N.Y.) led Roger Williams in two categories as the sophomore served up a match-high four aces and recorded a match-high 29 digs.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott travels to non-conference foe Tufts on Wednesday, October 7 to take on the Jumbos at 7:00 p.m. Roger Williams has nearly a week off as they next take the court at Western New England on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
