Gulls Top Riverhawks 5-4

Gulls Top Riverhawks 5-4

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's club ice hockey team extended their winning streak to six after a big 5-4 victory over UMass Lowell on Sunday. Junior goaltender Taylor Witham (Cumberland, Maine) was the backbone of the team in the win as she had 28 big stops in the contest. The Gulls move to 6-0 on the season.

The Blue and Green saw a different Riverhawks team on Sunday than the saw last month when they came out with a 6-3 victory. This was a different Riverhawks team that came out for redemption as it was a battle to the end.

Offensively the Gulls held strong with goals from five different players. Defenders Sierra Cummings (Colchester, Vt.) and Martha Crowley (Castelton, N.Y.) led the offensive push as they came in off the back line and created an offensive minded group. Cummings tallied a crisp goal after she blasted a writer shot from the right post to slip past the goaltender. Crowley also added a fantastic goal after she came in on a full ice rush where she was able to beat the Riverhawks defense and goaltender.

Following in their stead, junior Mackenzie Hurst (Gilford, N.H.), senior Jesse Bilafer (Concord, Mass.) and sophomore Lindsey Sneider (Gorham, Maine) also tabbed goals in the win. Hurst and Crowley also worked hard creating scoring opportunities as they each earned an assist. Juniors Lexi Bird (Lebanon, N.H.) and Samantha Parr (Dedham, Mass.) each earned an assist apiece while freshman Katie Saunders (Barrington, R.I.) claimed two.

Coach Munzing could not be happier with the win as he stated "This was our best game of the year. This was a very physical game and our forwards stood tall against the Riverhawks under the leadership of senior co-captain Addie Weeks (Harwichport, Mass.)"

Endicott is off until December 7th, when they host Westfield State at 7:00 p.m.
