NCAA Faculty Athletic Representative

Position Description

The Faculty Athletic Representative (F.A.R.) serves as a bridge between the students and the faculty and staff.  If academic issues ever arise such as class conflicts, academic performance or communication between faculty, staff and the student-athlete, the F.A.R. serves as an additional liaison that represents both parties.  At Endicott, the position of F.A.R. is served in terms that last two academic years.

For the fall semester of 2014 through the spring semester of 2016, Dr. Sergio Inestrosa has been named the NCAA Faculty Athletic Representative at Endicott College.  It is a pivotal role at Endicott as approximately 26% of the student body participates in intercollegiate athletics.  Inestrosa brings a passion for the College and athletics that will continue to drive his spirit, enthusiasm and commitment in helping our student-athletes achieve both in the classroom and in the athletic realm.  His support is evident through consistent attendance across all sports as well as following their performances and accolades on social media.

Dr. Inestrosa has been extremely influential within the School of Arts and Sciences during his tenure.  Since his arrival at Endicott in 2001, he has created the Spanish minor and developed multiple courses within Endicott’s educational offerings.  Dr. Inestrosa currently teaches Spanish and Mexican culture and oversees the Spanish Cine Club.  Originally from Mexico City, Mexico, Inestrosa received a PhD in Literature from the Universidad Iberoamericana in 1998.  In addition to having his PhD, he also has completed Postdoctoral research at Harvard, has published six books in Mexico and has traveled the US and Central America presenting his research.

When asked why he is such a dedicated fan of all the Endicott athletic programs, Inestrosa did not hesitate to give his reasoning.  “I love sports.  I am sure that commitment to their respective sport from the athletes shows the ability for students to be just as committed to their academic success,” Inestrosa stated.

As for what his goal was in accepting this position, Dr. Inestrosa’s desire to help students be well-rounded is obvious.  “I would love to help the students that represent Endicott to balance their commitment in both areas; in sports and in the classroom.  I would love to help them become role models for the other students here.”

Director of Athletics Brian Wylie added, “We are so fortunate to have so many committed faculty and staff that truly understand the value of athletics for our students. Specifically, for as long as I’ve known Dr. Inestrosa, he has been such an inspiration for our student-athletes and the athletic program. He is already extremely popular with many of our student-athletes as he has been a familiar face cheering on our Gulls for so many years. His enthusiasm is infectious and he cares deeply that the integrity of the partnership between academics and athletics continues.”
