Dr. Sergio Inestroza is currently in his 11th academic year (2012-current) as an NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative for the athletics department. The Faculty Athletics Representative serves as a bridge between the students and the faculty and staff. 

He primarily teaches Spanish courses, but also loves to help students who want to taste the flavor of Portuguese, as it’s his second language. He is very passionate about teaching and learning alongside others and is known for his emphatic personality. He was named the 2006 Endicott College Faculty of the Year and frequently leads student group trips to Latin America, Costa Rica, Peru, and Mexico. When not teaching, Inestroza is writing. From works of Spanish poetry to nonfictions books and fiction novels, Inestroza has been published in both the United States and Mexico.

Dr. Sergio Inestroza Embraces Role As Endicott's NCAA F.A.R.

In this position, Dr. Inestroza will look to bolster an already impressive academic reputation that witnessed student-athletes gather several hundred Academic All-Conference awards, 12 First Team All-District awards and three Academic All-Americans awards under his watch. It is a pivotal role at Endicott as approximately 25% of the student body participates in intercollegiate athletics. Inestroza brings a passion for the College and athletics that will continue to drive his spirit, enthusiasm and commitment in helping our student-athletes achieve both in the classroom and in the athletic realm.

Dr. Inestroza has been extremely influential within the School of Arts and Sciences during his tenure. Since his arrival at Endicott in 2001, he has created the Spanish minor and developed multiple courses within Endicott’s educational offerings. Dr. Inestroza currently teaches Spanish and Mexican culture and oversees the Spanish Cine Club. Originally from Mexico City, Mexico, Inestroza received a Ph.D. in Literature from the Universidad Iberoamericana in 1998. In addition to having his Ph.D., he also has completed Postdoctoral research at Harvard, has published six books in Mexico and has traveled the U.S. and Central America presenting his research. 

When asked why he is such a dedicated fan of all the Endicott athletic programs, Inestroza did not hesitate to give his reasoning. “I love sports.  I am sure that commitment to their respective sport from the athletes shows the ability for students to be just as committed to their academic success,” Inestroza stated. 

As for what his goal was in accepting this position, Dr. Inestroza’s desire to help students be well-rounded is obvious. “I would love to help the students that represent Endicott to balance their commitment in both areas; in sports and in the classroom. I would love to help them become role models for the other students here.”

Director of Athletics Brian Wylie added, “We are so fortunate to have so many committed faculty and staff that truly understand the value of athletics for our students. Specifically, for as long as I’ve known Dr. Inestroza, he has been such an inspiration for our student-athletes and the athletic program. He is already extremely popular with many of our student-athletes as he has been a familiar face cheering on our Gulls for so many years. His enthusiasm is infectious and he cares deeply that the integrity of the partnership between academics and athletics continues.”
