Women’s Tennis Drops Two In Sunday Matinee

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Endicott women's tennis team was defeated in a pair of matches by Luther (8-1) and Hendrix (7-2) on Sunday at the USTA Facility. 

MATCH ONE: Luther 8, Endicott 1

The Gulls picked up their lone point at No. 3 singles.

Olivia Martinelli (Coral Springs, Fla.) captured a 7(11)-6(9), 6-2 victory. 

No. 1 Lejla Guster (Wethersfield, Conn.) and No. 4 Ashley Keaveney (Exeter, N.H.) turned in tough 6-0, 5-7, 8-10, and 2-6, 6-3, 4-10 setbacks, respectively.

MATCH TWO: Hendrix 7, Endicott 2

The Warriors took two of the three doubles flights and never looked back.

The duo of Ashley Klauck (Magnolia, Texas) Abbey Fleming (Wolfeboro, N.H.) registered a gritty 8-7 (7-5) triumph at No. 3. 

Ripley Uyeda (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) also picked up a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles.

"It was a tough result but we fought hard. We still have some things to clean up but have a lot to build off of," said Endicott women's tennis head coach Anthony D'Angelo. "We handled a challenging environment admirably, along with playing two matches in one day for the first time in program history."

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Martinelli improved to 6-4 in singles this season.
  • The pairing of Fleming and Klauck produced their first doubles win of 2023-24.
  • Klauck is an unblemished 3-0 in doubles flight with three different partners this season.
