Women’s Tennis Bests Springfield On Senior Day, 6-3

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's tennis team defeated Springfield, 6-3, on Saturday afternoon at the South Campus Courts. 

Prior to the match, seniors Kaitlin Fitzgibbons (Nashua, N.H.), Shelby Henry (Lincoln, Neb.), and Ashley Keaveney (Exeter, N.H.) were all honored for their contributions to the women's tennis program and the Endicott community.

The hosts took two of the three doubles flights to gain early momentum in the contest.

Endicott's top duo of Ripley Uyeda (Ranchos Palos Verdes, Calif.) / Lejla Guster (Wethersfield, Conn.) earned a gritty 8-7 (7-3) triumph at No. 1, while Henry and Samantha Hartmann (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.) produced an 8-5 victory at No. 3.

In singles, the Blue and Green continued their winning ways as No. 4 Henry and No. 1 Guster posted scores of 6-2, 6-1 and 7-5, 6-2 to take a 4-2 advantage.

The Gulls clinched the match at No. 3 behind a strong showing from Keaveney (6-2, 6-3) before Hartmann rounded out the list of winners at No. 6 (6-0, 3-6, 6-2) for the squad.

"Today was so fun. We had a very fun crowd with Homecoming Weekend and Senior Day all being celebrated," said Endicott women's tennis head coach Anthony D'Angelo. "We are grateful to be a part of this community. Playing on the comfort of our home courts helped us get the result today."

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls end the regular season 5-0 at the South Campus Courts.
  • The Blue and Green finished 26-19 (.577) in doubles flights this fall.
  • This season marks back-to-back undefeated regular season conference records.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (8-3) has earned the No. 1 seed in next week's Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) playoffs. The Gulls will play the winner of No. 5 Western New England/No. 4 Gordon on Thursday, October 19 at 2 PM.
