Women’s Tennis Shuts Out Suffolk, 9-0

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's tennis team defeated Suffolk, 9-0, on Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play at the South Campus Courts. 

In doubles, the Gulls swept all three flights to carry a 3-0 advantage into singles play. 

The duo of Sofia Montoya (Wenham, Mass.) / Yolanda Mendonca (Albany, N.Y.) produced a convincing 8-0 victory at No. 3, while Abbey Fleming (Wolfeboro, N.H.) / Amber Woods (Scarborough, Maine) turned in an 8-3 win at No. 2.

The Blue and Green's top pairing consisting of Ashley Klauck (Magnolia, Texas) / Ana Mar Molina (Sachse, Texas) manufactured an 8-4 triumph to complete the clean sweep.

Endicott clinched the victory in singles via No. 5 Mendonca (6-0, 6-0) and No. 3 Fleming (6-1, 6-1).

The depth of the Gulls' lineup was on full display for the remainder of the match as No. 2 Molina (6-2, 6-1), No. 6 Montoya (6-1, 6-1), No. 4 Klauck (1-6, 6-2, 10-4), and No. 1 Samantha Hartmann (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.) (4-6, 6-2, 10-6) rounded out the scoring.

"We survived another tough stretch, completing another three matches in three days. Our student-athletes have done a great job managing their stress during this time, and it correlates with the high level we've been showing," said Endicott women's tennis head coach Anthony D'Angelo.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Blue and Green are 15-3 (.833) in CCC doubles during the 2023-24 campaign.
  • The Gulls are 4-0 at the South Campus Courts this fall.
  • Montoya captured her first collegiate doubles victory this evening.
  • Mendonca leads the Gulls with five singles triumphs (5-1).

Endicott (7-3, 6-0 CCC) welcomes Springfield to campus on Saturday, October 14 at 3:00 PM for Senior Day/Homecoming. Suffolk (2-8, 1-4 CCC) travels to UMass Dartmouth tomorrow at 3:00 PM.
