Men’s Volleyball Completes Doubleheader Sweep Versus Davenport & Benedictine (Ill.)

LISLE, Ill. – The Endicott men's volleyball team earned non-conference wins over Davenport and Benedictine (Ill.) on Thursday night in a tri-match hosted by Benedictine at the Rice Center. The Gulls defeated Davenport, 3-1, in an exhibition match by scores of 23-25, 29-27, 25-19, and 25-17, and topped Benedictine, 3-2, by scores of 22-25, 25-14, 25-23, 17-25, and 15-8.

MATCH ONE: Endicott 3, Davenport 1 (23-25, 29-27, 25-19, 25-17)

Bryn Lipton (Rockford, Ill.), Donovan Dey (Fairport, N.Y.), and Troy Riorden (Fairport, N.Y.) fueled Endicott as the trio posted 19, 12, and 12 kills, respectively. Daniel Toth (Glenwood, N.J.) also chipped in with nine kills as all four student-athletes hit .435 or better in the victory.

Chad Riorden (Fairport, N.Y.) ran the majority of the offense with 35 assists. Adam Dake (Victor, N.Y.) came off the bench to add 17 assists in the Gulls' rotation. Defensively, T. Riorden led the squad with eight digs, while Ryan Healy (Fair Lawn, N.J.) had seven, and C. Riorden and Lipton notched five apiece. Dey paced the block with four block assists.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott's match versus Davenport counts as an exhibition since Davenport is a club team.
  • Today's match featured 26 ties and eight lead changes.
  • Endicott hit .321 or better in each set, including a set-high .469 (19k, 4e, 32ta) in the opening set.

  • Nathanael VanderMeer compiled a match-high 21 kills.
  • Kevin DeYoung added nine, while Sean Cox had six.
  • Christopher Croft set up a match-high 43 kills and also registered nine digs.

MATCH TWO: Endicott 3, Benedictine 2 (22-25, 25-14, 25-23, 17-25, 15-8)

Tied 2-2 in set five, Endicott put together a 4-0 run to take a 6-2 lead and maintained that advantage the rest of the way to secure its second victory of the night on the road. Two attack errors by Benedictine (7-11) and one kill each from Toth and Lipton broke down the run for the Gulls.

In total, tonight's match featured 19 tied scores and 11 lead changes before Endicott pulled away.

Lipton and T. Riorden tied for the team-high in kills with 13, respectively, while Toth put home 11 total.

C. Riorden facilitated 24 assists, and Dake had 23 assists, while Healy guided the defense in match two with a match-high 14 digs. T. Riorden also finished with 11 digs, one service ace, and one assist to aid the Gulls to the win.

  • Kacper Mazurek (Naperville, Ill.) turned in a match-high 14 kills on 35 swings (.229).
  • Elijah Medlock (LaGrange Park, Ill.) had 12 kills and 10 digs for a double-double, while Nick Malak (Wales, Wis.) turned in 10 putaways.
  • Joe Lock (Shorewood, Wis.) had a team-high 27 assists.
