Stevens clips Gulls in NECVA Quarterfinals

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - No. 4 seed and nationally-ranked No. 6 Stevens Institute of Technology registered a 28-30, 30-26, 30-21, 30-24 victory over No. 5 seeded and 11th-ranked Endicott College in quarterfinal action of the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Championship Tournament on Saturday. With the win, the Ducks (23-6) advance to the semifinals where they will face No. 8 seed Baruch College. The Gulls close their season with a ledger of 22-12.

Andrew Cranford had a solid outing for Stevens, tallying 22 kills, a .529 hitting percentage, seven digs, and seven blocks. Joe Trinsey posted 19 kills, a .324 hitting performance, and eight digs as Tomas Bochicchio notched 17 kills and five blocks. On the defensive end, Michael Bertucci totaled eight digs while Doug Reger added eight blocks. Brandt Grobeis dished out 62 assists to go along with six digs and five blocks.

Brent Feldman (West Palm Beach, Fla.) powered Endicott with 12 kills, a .417 hitting percentage, and three blocks. A.J. Witkofsky (Scotia, N.Y.) totaled 13 kills, three blocks, and two aces as John Emery (Westford, Mass.) contributed 10 kills. Dan Coleman (Millis, Mass.) recorded a team-high 11 digs while Matt Carroll (East Hartford, Conn.) followed with nine. Ben Foster (Penfield, N.Y.) notched 42 assists as David Lowe (Burnt Hill, N.Y.) chipped in seven digs and three aces. James Sliva (Monroe, Conn.) bolstered the defense with six blocks.
